Sappers Forward! German Breakout Tactics on the Russian Front, 1941-1944

Sappers Forward! German Breakout Tactics on the Russian Front, 1941-1944 Review

Oversized (8 1/2" x 11"), 90 pages, color covers, fully illustrated with photos, line drawings, 20 maps, 6 detailed Orders of battle, seven chapters and two detailed appendices. In this study, author Antonio J. Muñoz brings us a detailed view of what it was like to be trapped behind Red Army lines during World War Two. The availability of this information has always been limited, but thanks to Munoz's efforts, the researcher and historian now has another valuable and detailed study on the war in the East. This work is fully illustrated, with numerous maps and tables. Where possible, some of the original German maps were altered to reflect knowledge gained over the past 40+ years. The best example are Maps "2" and "3," which describe the siege and relief of Velikiye Luki. The reader now has a better understanding of German pockets and the difficulty in either breaking out of or relieving these trapped German forces. The book has therefore allowed for a more detailed picture to come out. It is hoped that the reader will come away from this study with a better understanding of what it was like to be encircled behind Soviet lines during the Russian campaign.
